BroadLight Announces Commercial Availability of End-to-End XGPON Solution

October 3rd, 2011 – Santa Clara, Calif. – BroadLight, the leading supplier of fiber access processors, announced today the availability of standard compliant ITU-T G.987 XGPON OLT and ONT solutions.

BroadLight is the first in the market to offer a commercial standard compliant (ITU-T G.987) XGPON OLT and ONT solution. While GPON maintains fast growing deployment driven by end-user demand for rising bandwidth, new technologies are driving the PON industry to invest in XGPON supporting 10Gbps downstream and 2.5Gbps upstream. Video service delivery of IPTV and 3DTV and adoption of LTE mobile technologies needing an efficient and future proof backhaul technology are paving the way for XGPON. Higher split ratio and longer reach enable central office consolidation are additional contributing factors to market dynamics.

BroadLight has demonstrated once again, its instrumental role in the ITU-T PON industry by proving that the work done by the standardization team can be implemented and become commercially available. BroadLight continues to heavily support FSAN and Broadband Forum towards, achieving full XGPON ONT and OLT interoperability.

“XGPON enables carriers a robust continuity of their ITU-T PON networks, meeting their evolving service deployments demands by scaling bandwidth, subscriber count and lowering power consumption profiles”, says Doron Tal, BroadLight’s VP of Business Development and Product Marketing. “We continue executing on our commitment to lead the PON processors market through enabling our customers with XGPON solutions.”
